Have you ever asked yourself the question; “Does God have my back”? I have, and it’s often been difficult to answer with a resounding yes.  Like many folks I have my doubts, especially when times get tough, and I see no possible resolution or way out.  But that’s the point, isn’t it?  I don’t see a possible resolution or way out.  I’m not trusting in God’s person, power or provision in those moments, I’m trusting in my ability to be Godlike, and I fail miserably.

Mediating on God’s Word is always comforting and illuminating and reading Psalm 91 the other day reinforced the following truths. God has always cared for us and being all powerful He has the ability to rectify every situation in the best way possible. So back to the question I originally asked, “Does God have my back?”  Of course He does.  The real issue is not with God, but rather with us and our ability to trust in Him.

Here’s the good news.  Once we accept the reality that God truly does have our back our mindset changes. We start to see our own frailties and inability to manage the things that are outside of our control, and we become more acutely aware that He is always there to help us in our times of need, trial, or tribulation. You could say that we finally come to our senses to realize that He is the light in the darkness, the voice in the wilderness and the guidepost in the Wasteland.

Trusting that God has our back is also the path towards Garden living and the authentic relationships that result. Because God has it covered, we no longer need to control other human beings to make ourselves feel valued, protected, or loved. We are free to be vulnerable and selfless not fearing the implications or outcome and positioned to receive the blessings that only comes with putting others first.

So, push on sojourner towards your destiny! Don’t give in to fear, doubt and cynicism.  Let go of the past, grab hold of the future and place your faith in the One who loves you unconditionally. Live the life you were meant to live. You can because He has your back!
